The Meredith College community celebrated a historic moment on September 28, 2026, when Eva Howard was sworn in as the first woman to serve as the College’s chief of police.
“Today is an important day for Meredith College as we welcome a new leader who will play a vital role in keeping our campus safe, secure, and welcoming for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors,” said Vice President for Business and Finance Tammi Jackson. “We are proud to recognize this milestone and, even more importantly, to celebrate the leadership, experience, and commitment to service that she brings to this role.”
Howard has nearly two decades of law enforcement experience. She is proud of her new role and her place in Meredith’s history.
“Being the first is an honor. But it is also a responsibility. Because when you are the first, you have an opportunity to make sure you are not the last,” Howard said. “If my presence in this role makes it a little easier for another woman to see herself in a position like this one, then that is a legacy I will be proud to leave. But I want to be very clear about something: I did not come here simply to be the first. I came here to serve.”
