How Peer Mentors Support First-Year Success at William Peace University

Rebecca Boyle ’28 remembers arriving at William Peace University in the summer of 2024, away from home for the first time, unsure of what to make of college and afraid to talk to anyone.

That changed when she started orientation. What helped her adjust? Meeting her peer mentor.

Peer mentors at Peace play a significant role. When first-year students or transfers arrive at orientation, they are placed into groups. Those groups are based on surveys completed by students ahead of orientation, ensuring they are paired with peers who have similar interests.

Once students are in their groups, they meet a peer mentor who leads them through the orientation process via various breakout sessions and icebreaker activities. But it doesn’t stop there. Peer mentors also join students in the classroom for FYS 294: Peer Mentoring.
